This investigation for The City Reporter exposed how notorious brothers once incarcerated for violently intimidating tenants perpetrated a new scheme to compel property owners to sell them buildings, using pseudonyms and shell companies. My reporting, with Debbie Nathan, was honored with awards from the Newswomen’s Club of New York, New York Press Club, Silurians Press Club and National Association of Real Estate Editors.

I conceived and led the award-winning Meet Your Mayor quiz at The City Reporter, with two linked objectives: force candidates to state their positions on tough choices confronting City Hall, and help voters find their best match. Outlier Media replicated the project in Detroit, and the original 2021 edition spun off versions using our code and editorial guidance at public radio newsrooms in Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
